It is difficult to answer the question of how much sleep a person needs because it varies in different ways for different people.
The body’s need for sleep
The body’s sleep needs vary greatly between different age groups. A baby almost needs 16 hours of sleep per day while a teenager does not need more than 8 hours.
After adolescence until they become “old”, the need for sleep is fairly constant at around 7 ½ to 8 ½ hours. As you get older, you need a bit less sleep, around six hours. One can, however, getting the body with both higher and lower need for sleep (4-9 hours).
What happens if you don’t sleep?
There are many reasons for the failure to get sufficient sleep. The most common is that they work or just stay up too long, the children or similar keeps you awake or that you have a sleep disorder that makes you unable to sleep properly.
What happens then you probably know already, because who has not been deprived of their sleep at some point? The greatest impact is on mood (one is in a bad mood of too little sleep), the next biggest impact is on the cognitive level (one thinks worse) and the third largest impact is on one’s physical ability.
The number of hours you sleep and how deeply you sleep are all related to the health of your body. In order to maintain homeostatic balance in your body you need proper sleep and rest. The main culprits for these sleep problems are alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, caffeine, nicotine, etc. They will have a bad effect on the body and also they will ruin your sleep. Studies have shown remarkable results in physical test in which those who got very little sleep doing a worse job than 90% of people who got enough sleep!
